I am very proud of my students at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism who finished and published this excellent investigative series, “Discharging Trouble.”
My class identified and reported these stories in four months this spring, which is remarkable given the complexity of the data work, subject material and interviews. The series gained national visibility. The series was published first on the Merrill College’s Capital News Service and then republished by The Associated Press. From there, it waspublished on the websites of at least 42 newspapers nationwide, from the The Washington Post to the Miami Herald to the San Francisco Chronicle.
In addition, this is continuing to have an impact in Annapolis. Oversight of NMS was a significant issue in the confirmation of the Dept. of Health and Mental Hygiene Secretary.
