Event Information
Join me and St. John’s College alumni Renwick Hudson for a discussion and exploration of Aristotle’s Rhetoric.
Rhetoric has three books, so we will read and discuss one book a week: June 4, 11 and 18, on Monday evenings, starting at 7 p.m. The venue is TBA.
I will be using the Modern Library translation but here is a free version on the web.
Why do this?
Rhetoric is a foundational text in communications theory. I encounter the work time and again as I research political discourse and I want some help in understanding how we can apply this work to our times. I’ve read and studied Aristotle in the past, and had some fun with Nicomachean Ethics, but I find Rhetoric to be difficult. I hope this discussion will clarify how we can best apply Rhetoric in our research and writing going forward.
